New features for Miles & More Award Flights: more flexibility and fare options for Flight Awards

The loyalty programme of the Lufthansa Group is optimising its Award Flight offer and will introduce a new system for calculating Award Flights on selected Lufthansa Group airlines from June 2025.

Frankfurt on the Main, 25 February 2025 – Miles & More announces a further step in improving its Award Flight options. From 3 June 2025, in addition to earning miles, redeeming miles is also based on the ticket prices of the airlines. Members will then benefit from more flexible mileage values and a wider range of fares on Austrian Airlines, Lufthansa, Lufthansa City and SWISS. This will make the offer even more attractive and easier to use, as well as offering the opportunity to customise mileage redemptions for flights. This may also improve the bookability of Award Flights on some routes. Last year, as a first step, the Award Flight offer was significantly improved with the introduction of a new flight booking platform.

As part of the change, the airline's award products will be renamed “Award Flights”. The well-known “Mileage Bargains” for Austrian Airlines, Lufthansa and SWISS will also be integrated into the new offer. The existing “Flex Plus” product (using miles to pay for taxes, fees and airline surcharges) will be temporarily discontinued.

“We are constantly working on improving the services and offers for our Miles & More members," says Marcus Frank, Vice President Loyalty at Lufthansa Group. “We are responding to specific requests from our members, such as greater flexibility in Award Flights and a digital booking experience within the Lufthansa Group.” “And the best thing about redeemed miles is what our members can experience with them”, adds Gerald Schlögl, Managing Director of Miles & More GmbH. “We know that it's not always easy to redeem miles for flight tickets. This makes it even more important for us to constantly optimise this offer.”

Flexible mileage values instead of a fixed award table

For bookings from 3 June 2025, the mileage value for a flight on Austrian Airlines, Lufthansa, Lufthansa City and SWISS will no longer be based on a fixed table, but on the ticket price of the respective airline. Factors such as travel time, time of booking, route, travel class and selected fare will determine the final mileage value. In this way, members can benefit from particularly favourable mileage values during the low season, for example.

More fare options for more individual travel needs

In the future, passengers will have a wider choice of fares. Within Europe, they can choose between Light, Classic and Flex fares in Economy Class and between Saver and Flex in Business Class. On intercontinental flights, Basic, Basic Plus and Flex fares will also be offered. With one fare, this was previously not possible when booking Award Flights. This flexibility makes it easier to tailor Award Flights to individual needs.

Improved flight booking platform with new functions

The Miles & More flight booking platform has been optimised and is now even more user-friendly. Members receive a clear overview of mileage values, fare options, as well as rebooking and cancellation options. Bookings for infants (up to 2 years without seat entitlement), additional seat options and baggage can be made directly online.

Award Flight table for partner airlines remains unchanged

While the new flexible mileage values apply to Austrian Airlines, Lufthansa, Lufthansa City Airlines and SWISS, the Award Flight table will remain in force for the other airlines of the Lufthansa Group (ITA Airways, Brussels Airlines, Eurowings and Discover Airlines) as well as for all other Miles & More partner airlines and Star Alliance members with fixed mileage values until further notice. It will only be adjusted to reflect the latest price developments. This means that on some routes, lower and more attractive mileage values will be offered in Economy Class, while on some routes, especially in higher travel classes, higher values will apply.

The advantages at a glance:

Flexible mileage values: Mileage values are based on the airlines' ticket prices and vary depending on travelling time and route.
More fare options: Light, Classic and Flex fares in Europe as well as additional fares on long-haul routes.
Improved booking platform: All fare options, mileage values and additional services at a glance.
Partly better availability: The bookability of Award Flights may improve on some routes.
