Hello, how can we help you?

Simple and transparent – the new status programme from 2024

In 2019, we announced that we would be revising our status programme – then everything changed.

On 1 January 2024, the modifications will finally be coming into effect. Our aim is to offer you an attractive and transparent programme – clear and simple. These changes will not affect the awards programme. You will still be able to earn award miles in the usual way.

Summary of the changes from 1 January 2024

Transparent Points system will replace status and HON Circle miles

To achieve status, you will earn Points, Qualifying Points and HON Circle Points for each segment flown with the Lufthansa Group airlines and the co-issuing Miles & More airline partners

Earning period and status term will be one year in the future

Frequent Traveller Lifetime and Senator Lifetime status will be rewarded for long-term loyalty

Complicated programme components will be ceased

Detailed overview of the programme changes

Why are we changing the status programme?

In 2019, we announced that we would be revising our status programme. The time has now come, and the changes will be implemented on 1 January 2024. Our status programme will be less complex and more transparent as a result. In the future, you will be able to see at a glance what you need to do to achieve or renew status. This will make it easier for you to concentrate on what matters to you and enjoy every journey.

When will the changes come into effect?

The changes will apply to all flights from 1 January 2024.

What will I earn?

Now From 1 January 2024
At the moment, you earn lots of different kinds of miles - status miles, HON Circle miles, select miles, Status Stars points, flight segments and award miles.

New:

To achieve frequent flyer status in the future, you will earn Points, Qualifying Points and HON Circle Points. In the awards programme, you will continue to earn award miles as before.

When will I start earning Points, Qualifying Points and HON Circle Points instead of status miles or HON Circle miles?

The new Points system will apply to all flights operated from 1 January 2024, irrespective of when you book them.

Example: you book in March 2023 to take a flight in February 2024 -> you will already earn Points, Qualifying Points and HON Circle Points.

How will I earn Points?

Now From 1 January 2024

Currently, the number of status miles or HON Circle miles you earn depends on several factors. If you fly within Europe, you earn a fixed mileage amount based on the booking class and airline. For all other flights, the amount depends on the airline, booking class and distance flown. In addition, status customers currently receive an Executive Bonus of 25% on the status and HON Circle miles they earn.

We want to use the new Points system to enhance transparency and to offer special rewards to those who fly with the Lufthansa Group airlines and the co-issuing Miles & More airline partners. In the future, a distinction will be made between Points, Qualifying Points and HON Circle Points.

New:

You will earn Points on flights operated by Lufthansa, SWISS, Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines, Eurowings, Discover Airlines and Air Dolomiti*, plus the co-issuing Miles & More airline partners Croatia Airlines, LOT Polish Airlines, Luxair and all other Star Alliance airlines.

You earn Qualifying Points and HON Circle Points for flights operated by the following airlines:
Lufthansa, SWISS, Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines, Eurowings, Discover Airlines and Air Dolomiti, plus Croatia Airlines, LOT Polish Airlines and Luxair.

HON Circle Points will only be awarded for flights in Business and First Class.

In the future, only two criteria will be used to determine the number of Points, Qualifying Points and HON Circle Points you earn: the travel class and whether it is a continental or intercontinental flight. The number of Points, Qualifying Points and HON Circle Points will be the same for all members, i.e. there will be no Executive Bonus in the new Points system. However, it will still apply to award miles.

How long will my status be valid? And how much time will I have to achieve it?

Now From 1 Januar 2024

Once you have qualified or requalified, your status is currently valid for at least two years and ends in the following February.
At present, the qualification period is one calendar year for Frequent Travellers and Senators, and two consecutive calendar years for HON Circle Members.

We are reducing both the term and the qualification period to one year.

New:
From 1 January 2024, if you achieve or renew your status based on Points, the term will be at least one year. It will start as soon as you have achieved your status and finish at the end of February the year after next.

Example

If you achieve your status in April 2024, it will be valid until the end of February 2026.

The qualification period will be one calendar year for all status levels - including HON Circle Member.

Switching from the old system to the new one:
All qualifications or renewals earned on the basis of miles until 31 December 2023 will still retain their two-year term. The new term of at least one year will then apply to all Senators and Frequent Travellers who achieve or requalify for their status after that date. There will be a transitional arrangement for HON Circle Members because of the two-year qualification period.

What is the transitional arrangement for HON Circle Members?

Now From 1 January 2024
Until 31 December 2023, the two-year qualification period will apply to qualify or requalify as a HON Circle Member.

New:

Special rules will apply to qualifying or renewing as a HON Circle Member in the transitional period between the old and new systems.

Qualification and renewal years 2022 and 2023 (existing HON Circle Members with a term to February 2024):

You will achieve or renew your status with 600,000 HON Circle miles as usual within the two calendar years until 31 December 2023 and will qualify for a term of two years until the end of February 2026.

Qualification and renewal years 2023 and 2024 (existing HON Circle Members with a term to February 2025):

In 2023, you will continue to earn HON Circle miles as usual. From 1 January 2024, you will be credited with HON Circle Points for your flights in Business and First Class. HON Circle miles will then no longer exist.

There are now two options:

Option 1:

In the calendar year 2024, you earn at least 6,000 HON Circle Points and qualify for HON Circle Member status until February 2026.

Option 2:

We will, of course, recognise the HON Circle miles you have flown in 2023 and convert these into HON Circle Points. This amount will be added to the HON Circle Points you earn in 2024. If you reach a total of 12,000 HON Circle Points, you will become a HON Circle Member for two years until February 2027.

Conversion rate: 100 HON Circle miles are equivalent to 2 HON Circle Points. 300,000 HON Circle miles are therefore equivalent to 6,000 HON Circle Points.

What new features are being introduced?

Now From 1 Januar 2024
Currently, once you have earned above a certain number of select or HON Circle miles, you can actively choose additional select benefits on the Miles & More website.

We want to continue to award benefits while making the programme less complex.

New:
Miles & More Selections will no longer be available in its current form from 1 January 2024. This will make it easier for you. In the future, if you earn more than a certain number of Qualifying Points or HON Circle Points per calendar year, you will receive additional benefits automatically without having to claim them:

Frequent Traveller

  • 800 Qualifying Points: mileage exchange

Senator

  • 2,500 Qualifying Points: 2 eVouchers
  • 3,500 Qualifying Points: 15,000 award miles
  • 5,000 Qualifying Points: Frequent Traveller partner card

HON Circle Member

  • 7,000 HON Circle Points: 2 eVouchers
  • 8,500 HON Circle Points: 30,000 award miles
  • 10,000 HON Circle Points: 2 eVouchers
  • 11,500 HON Circle Points: Frequent Traveller partner card
  • 13,000 HON Circle Points: Senator partner card
Currently, we award you Status Stars depending on your status membership. You can see these on your service card, for example. The number of Status Stars is determined by Status Stars points, which are awarded depending on the relevant status for each day of membership. As a Status Stars holder, you also get access to exclusive events.

New:
There will be no more Status Stars and Status Stars points in the future. These will therefore no longer be visible on your service card or the online channels. However, you will still have access to exclusive events.

In the future, we will continue to reward long-term membership and are therefore introducing Frequent Traveller Lifetime and Senator Lifetime.

Recognition of Status Stars points to qualify as a Frequent Traveller Lifetime or Senator Lifetime.

Naturally, we are aware that you have been flying with us for a long time. That’s why the Status Stars points you have earned until 31 December 2023 will be converted into Qualifying Points for achieving Frequent Traveller Lifetime or Senator Lifetime status.

Conversion rate: one Status Stars point is equivalent to two Qualifying Points. All frequent flyers with four or five Status Stars will thus receive Senator Lifetime status at the beginning of 2024. You will receive Frequent Traveller Lifetime status if you have achieved three Status Stars by the end of 2023.

The award amounts for the European region apply to Miles & More members resident in Algeria, Egypt, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Syria or Tunisia whose journey begins or ends in their country of residence.

New:

From 1 January 2024, the regular award amounts for the Middle Eastern region will apply to upgrade bookings (with award miles or eVouchers) made by Miles & More members resident in Algeria, Egypt, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Syria or Tunisia whose journey begins or ends in their country of residence.

What changes are being made to privileges?

Now From 1 Januar 2024

You will find the current privileges for Frequent Travellers, Senators and HON Circle Members in the following table.

With the current two-year term, you receive two eVouchers when you achieve or renew your Senator status. As a HON Circle Member, you receive six eVouchers. You can use these for upgrades to a higher travel class.

Currently, the Senator Premium Award is available to Senators and HON Circle Members.

New:

The following changes will be made to privileges from 1 January 2024.

In the future, Senators will receive two eVouchers upon qualification or renewal.

In the new status programme, HON Circle Members will receive four eVouchers upon qualification or renewal for upgrades to a higher travel class.

Furthermore, the Senator Premium Award will no longer exist.

Lifetime status

We want to reward long-term loyalty.

New:
Earn 30,000 Qualifying Points over the years, and we will award you Frequent Traveller Lifetime status.

If you keep earning and achieve 40,000 Qualifying Points, we will award you Senator Lifetime status.

Recognition of Status Stars points to qualify as a Frequent Traveller Lifetime or Senator Lifetime:

Naturally, we are aware that you have been flying with us for a long time. That’s why the Status Stars points you have earned until 31 December 2023 will be converted into Qualifying Points for achieving Frequent Traveller Lifetime or Senator Lifetime.

Conversion rate: one Status Stars point is equivalent to two Qualifying Points. All frequent flyers with four or five Status Stars will thus receive Senator Lifetime status at the beginning of 2024. Those who have achieved three Status Stars by the end of 2023 will be awarded Frequent Traveller Lifetime status.

Get to know the new system with our Points calculator

There are now only two criteria that determine the number of Points, Qualifying Points and HON Circle Points earned on each flight segment: the distinction between continental or intercontinental flights and travel class.

For both continental and intercontinental flights, first select which travel class you will be flying. Then, in the next step, please enter how many flights you are planning with the airlines listed below.
