How long are my miles valid and how do I protect them from expiring?
Miles are valid for 36 months from the date of the event (commencement of the relevant flight, start of hotel stay, time of car rental, etc.). If they haven’t been used by then, they will expire at the end of that quarter.
Miles can be protected from expiry through frequent flyer status or with a Miles & More Credit Card. Members who have achieved Frequent Traveller, Senator or HON Circle Member status enjoy mileage protection. However, if this status is lost, mileage expiry will apply once again. After that, the miles will remain valid for an additional 36 months and then expire at the end of that quarter. In some countries, mileage expiry can also be prevented under certain conditions with a Miles & More Credit Card.
We’ll notify you about when your miles are due to expire in your Miles & More account.
If you’ve subscribed to our newsletter, you’ll receive a summary of all the miles that are due to expire at the end of the current quarter approximately two months in advance.
For example, if you take a flight from Frankfurt to New York on 12.12.2025, these miles are valid for 36 months, after which they will expire at the end of that quarter, i.e. on 31.12.2028.
