Hello, how can we help you?

Our Award Flights

The changes we told you about a short time ago are now live on our booking platform.

Take a look today, and discover the various new options.

The most important changes at a glance:

For Award Flights with Austrian AirlinesLufthansaLufthansa City and SWISSmileage amounts are now calculated individually for each flight.

Thanks to a larger choice of fares, you’ll also be able to decide for yourself whether you want your Award Flight to include baggage, seat reservations or cancellation options.

For all other Miles & More airline partners, our Award Flight chart will continue to apply, with Award Flights available for updated mileage amounts at Standard fare.

Here, you’ll find answers to other questions you might have about these changes to our Award Flights.

How are the mileage amounts for Award Flights calculated?

The miles needed for an Award Flight with Austrian Airlines, Lufthansa, Lufthansa City and SWISS mainly depend on the following factors

  • Route
  • Time/date of travel
  • Travel class and fare

The mileage amount is calculated based on these factors. It is informed by the prices for the lower booking classes in each travel class offered by the airlines. The mileage amount for a particular flight (for a specific fare and on a specific date) generally remains unchanged.

For example: the booking platform shows you a specific Lufthansa flight from Frankfurt to Madrid on 15 December 2025 along with a mileage amount for each travel class and fare. This mileage amount will remain the same, regardless of whether you book in June or December.

However, the availability of individual fares or the flight as a whole may vary depending on the booking date.

For all other Miles & More airline partners, the mileage amounts for Award Flights are taken from the Award Flight chart. You’ll find the current chart – with updated mileage amounts – here.

What fares can I choose from for Award Flights?

For Austrian Airlines, Lufthansa, Lufthansa City and SWISS, you can generally choose from these fares:

Continental flights

Economy Class Business Class
Light Classic Flex Saver Flex

Intercontinental flights

Economy Class / Premium Economy Class / Business Class / First Class
Light (nur Economy Class) Basic Basic Plus Flex

Each fare offers different terms and conditions in relation to

  • Seat reservations
  • Cancellation options
  • Refund options
  • Baggage allowance

Generally, the terms and conditions for each fare are based on those of the airline.

As a general rule, Flex fares have more flexible terms and conditions compared to Light, while Light fares are offered at lower mileage amounts.

For detailed terms and conditions for each flight, please see our booking platform. Please note that not all fares are available on every flight.

For all other Miles & More airline partners, the “Standard fare” (previously “Flex fare”) for each travel class applies. You can find the specific terms and conditions for the fares for your flight in your Award Flight booking.

Please note: as of 3 June 2025, the Flex fare previously offered by Miles & More airline partners was renamed Standard fare. None of the terms and conditions for the fare have changed.

What status benefits do I have when I book an Award Flight?

With Award Flights, your status benefits will continue to depend on the travel class you choose. In addition, with Austrian Airlines, Lufthansa, Lufthansa City and SWISS, your benefits will also depend on the fare – just like when you book flights with these airlines. You can find detailed information on each benefit in our overview.

What is happening to mileage bargains and the Flex Plus Award Flight?

Mileage bargains will still be offered by the Miles & More airline partners Eurowings, Brussels Airlines, Discover Airlines, LOT Polish Airlines, Croatia Airlines, Luxair and Air Dolomiti.

Due to technical changes, no mileage bargains will be available in June 2025

For Austrian Airlines, Lufthansa, Lufthansa City and SWISS, no mileage bargains will be available after June 2025. We’re always working to expand our offering, and will continue to provide attractive offers in the future.

Because of the new fare structures, we can no longer offer the Flex Plus Award Flight.

Can I combine Award Flights from Austrian Airlines, Lufthansa, Lufthansa City and SWISS (flexible mileage amounts per flight) with Award Flights from other Miles & More airline partners (Award Flight chart)?

The following combinations are possible:

  • Single flights can be individually combined (e.g. outbound and return flights)
  • Combinations are possible on intercontinental flights involving a connecting flight. Whether the mileage amount is taken from the Award Flight chart or is calculated flexibly depends on the airline operating the long-haul flight.

Within Europe, it is no longer possible to combine Austrian Airlines, Lufthansa, Lufthansa City or SWISS with another Miles & More airline partner on a one-way journey featuring connecting flights.

You’ll find all the combinations available to you alongside the corresponding mileage amounts on our booking platform.

Please note that the World Award Flight can still only be booked through the Service Centre.

How are the mileage amounts calculated for the World Award Flight and the 3-region Award Flight with Austrian Airlines, Lufthansa, Lufthansa City and SWISS?

The 3-region Award Flight and the World Award Flight are fare products with fixed mileage amounts. The mileage amount is independent of the Miles & More airline partners you fly with and your chosen flight combination. You can find the mileage amount for each travel class in the Award Flight chart.

Please note that the World Award Flight can still only be booked through the Service Centre.

What is different about the Award Flight chart from 3 June 2025?

Economy Class

Within Europe, you now need fewer miles in Economy Class. In addition, the amounts required for Award Flights are up to 10,000 miles lower on many long-haul routes.

Mileage amounts have gone up for flights to the Middle East, North and Central Africa, the Caucasus, South-East Asia, Australia and New Zealand.

Premium Economy Class

In Central America, the Caribbean, South America, North and Central Africa, the Middle East and the Caucasus, mileage amounts remain the same in Premium Economy Class. For other regions, you’ll need 5,000 miles more for an Award Flight.

Business Class

On European routes, mileage amounts are unchanged in Business Class. Outside Europe, the amounts are now higher and depend on the destination and distance. For example, the mileage amounts for flights to the Middle East and Africa have only increased by 5,000 miles, while you’ll need significantly more miles for longer routes, such as flights to South-East Asia.

First Class

First Class Award Flights are exclusive offers that are only available with a few airline partners. Due to the exclusive nature of these offers, you’ll need to redeem more miles.

World Award Flight and 3-region Award Flight

The mileage amounts for World Award Flight and 3-region Award Flight bookings have changed and will depend on the travel class. You can find the exact amounts in the Award Flight chart valid from 3 June 2025.
