Hello, how can we help you?

Achieve your dream award even faster with Mileage Pooling

The best thing about miles is what you can do with them. And if you work together, you can earn them even faster. With Mileage Pooling, two adults and up to five children can combine their miles in one mileage pool and earn miles together. This means you can grow your mileage balance faster and make all your wishes come true in no time.

How to earn miles together

1.

Go to Mileage Pooling in your account.

2.

Invite another Miles & More member you’d like to earn miles with.

3.

Seven days after the invitation has been accepted, your miles will automatically be combined in a shared pool. Any new miles you earn will flow directly into this mileage pool.

Your benefits with Mileage Pooling

All Miles & More members aged 18 and over can create their own mileage pool.

You can invite another adult and up to five children aged 2 to 18 to contribute to your pool.

All of the miles earned will be combined in the joint mileage pool. This will help you to earn miles for your dream awards faster.

The mileage protection that comes with a credit card also applies to Mileage Pooling, but only to the miles of the respective cardholder.

Miles are automatically redeemed according to the earliest possible expiration date. Protected miles are only used if there is an insufficient number of unprotected miles.

Is there a minimum or maximum number of members allowed in a mileage pool?

A mileage pool must have at least two members, including one of legal age (= at least 18 years old). A mileage pool can consist of up to two adults and five children/adolescents. The children/adolescents must be at least 2 years old and no older than 17.

Can you be a member of several mileage pools at the same time?

No, each Miles & More member may only be a member of one mileage pool.

Do the two adult members of the mileage pool have to be married, or are there no restrictions?

There are no restrictions. Any Miles & More member who is of legal age can join another adult member to create a mileage pool. This means that friends can also earn miles together, for example.

If an adult has the credit card and the miles are protected, does this apply to all members of a pool?

Mileage protection via the credit card is individual and therefore only applies to the miles of the credit card holder.

If an adult has a credit card and their miles are protected, does this apply to all members of a pool?

The mileage protection that comes with a credit card is personal and therefore only applies to the miles of the credit card holder.

Creating a mileage pool

Who can create a mileage pool?

A mileage pool can be opened by any Miles & More member of legal age residing in Belgium, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, France, Italy, Denmark, Ireland, Greece, Portugal, Spain, Finland, Sweden, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Poland, Slovakia, Slovenia, Czech Republic, Hungary, Cyprus, Bulgaria, Romania or Croatia. Underage Miles & More members are not allowed to create their own mileage pool, but they can be invited to join a mileage pool created by their parents or legal guardians.

How do I open a mileage pool?

In your account, you’ll see the “Mileage Pooling” feature. To send an invitation to another member, go to “Invite members” and enter the service card number of the member you wish to invite. You can invite one other adult and up to five children/adolescents. If the invited member accepts the invitation, the mileage pool is created.

How do I know if I’ve been invited to a mileage pool?

Members who have been invited to a mileage pool will receive an email, providing they’ve saved an email address in their profile. An entry will also appear in their inbox, though this may be slightly delayed.

Can I cancel an invitation?

Yes, but only if the invited member hasn’t yet accepted the invitation. If the invitation hasn’t yet been accepted, it can be cancelled at any time. You can do this via the “Recall invitation” field in the “Mileage Pooling” section of your account.

Can I decline an invitation?

Yes. You can decline an invitation via the “Decline” field in the invitation.

Earning and redeeming miles in a pool

Where can I see the number of miles earned together and the number of miles I’ve earned individually?

Seven days after opening the pool, the members’ miles will be aggregated. From this point on, adult members will be shown the pooled miles rather than the individual miles in their mileage account balance, e.g. at www.miles-and-more.com or www.lufthansa.com.

Both your pooled mileage balance and your individual mileage balance will be visible in your Miles & More account. Underage members of the pool will still only see their individual mileage balance.

How is the pooled mileage balance calculated and what are the prerequisites?

The pooled mileage balance is calculated as the sum of the miles of each pool member. The prerequisite for miles to be included in the pooled mileage balance is that at least one mile must be earned through a transaction with a Miles & More partner, for example by taking a flight, using the credit card or making a purchase with a programme partner. Miles that were not earned with a partner (for example by signing up for the Miles & More newsletter) can only be included in the pooled mileage balance after this prerequisite has been met.

Can I decide how many of my miles should be included in the pooled mileage balance?

No, that’s not possible. From the moment a mileage pool is opened, the miles of all members are added up and included in the pooled mileage balance.

Can I decide how many of a pool member’s miles are used for an award request?

No, that’s not possible. Miles & More selects the best option for the members, meaning that the system automatically manages the miles according to potential expiry date. The miles that would expire first across all accounts will be redeemed first. If mileage protection applies, the miles that were earned first will be redeemed first. Furthermore, protected miles are only redeemed if the number of unprotected miles is insufficient for the desired award. It is not possible to select individual miles for redemption.

Where can I see if miles from my account were used for an award request?

The pool members whose miles were used for the award will receive a notification in their online mileage account.

Who can redeem the pooled miles?

The two adult members of the mileage pool can redeem the pooled miles. Both have equal access to the miles. Underage members cannot access the pooled miles in the pool, but they can use their individual miles to request an award.

Are the miles protected from expiring? Will Mileage Pooling affect the validity of the miles?

No, participating in Mileage Pooling does not affect the validity of the miles. Miles & More Credit Card holders, Frequent Travellers, Senators and HON Circle Members continue to be exempt from mileage expiry.

When will all members earn miles for the joint pool?

Members will start earning miles together seven days after the invitation to Mileage Pooling has been accepted. This verification period is for the safety of all members. During this period, your miles will be credited to your individual mileage account as usual. You can then start earning miles and redeeming awards together.

Leaving a mileage pool

When and how can I leave my mileage pool, and what do I need to consider?

Members are free to leave their mileage pool at any time. They can do so via the corresponding function in their online account. After leaving a mileage pool, the member is suspended from Mileage Pooling for six months. The space that becomes available in the pool is also suspended for six months.

When I turned 18, why was I removed from my mileage pool?

When a member comes of age, they gain new Mileage Pooling rights. For this reason, the system removes them from their pool. However, unlike when a member decides to leave a pool, the member isn’t subject to a suspension period and can immediately join an existing mileage pool (the same one again or a different one) or create their own mileage pool.

What happens when a member leaves the group? Are their miles immediately removed from the virtual account? How much time does the process take?

Once a member leaves a pool, their miles are immediately removed and are no longer available for the other pool members to use. A new member may only join the group after a six-month period has elapsed.
