General terms and conditions for Award Flights
Unless specified otherwise, the following terms and conditions apply to the booking and use of Miles & More flight awards (hereinafter “Award Flights”). In addition to the terms and conditions set out below, the Miles & More terms and conditions of participation (hereinafter “terms and conditions of participation”) apply at all times. In the event of any conflict between the provisions of the following terms and conditions and the provisions of the terms and conditions of participation, the provisions of the following terms and conditions shall take precedence over those of the terms and conditions of participation. Flight services are subject to the terms and conditions of carriage of the operating Miles & More airline partners. The terms and conditions of carriage for flights with Lufthansa Group airlines (Air Dolomiti, Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines, Discover Airlines, Eurowings, Lufthansa, Lufthansa City Airlines and SWISS) can be found here.

1. Award Flights
You can generally book Award Flights online at miles-and-more.com for flights with Aegean Airlines, Air Astana, Air Canada, Air China, Air Dolomiti, Air India, Air New Zealand, All Nippon Airways, Asiana Airlines, Austrian Airlines, Avianca (including Aerogal, Lacsa and TACA), Brussels Airlines, Cathay Pacific, Copa Airlines, Croatia Airlines, EgyptAir, Ethiopian Airlines, Eurowings, Discover Airlines, EVA Air, ITA Airways, LATAM (including Mercosur and TAM Linhas Aéreas), LOT Polish Airlines, Lufthansa, Lufthansa City Airlines, Luxair, Olympic Air, Shenzhen Airlines, Singapore Airlines, South African Airways (not applicable to flights operated by Airlink), SWISS, TAP Air Portugal, Thai Airways, Turkish Airlines and United Airlines (please note that there are exceptions, including World Award Flights, which can only be booked through your Miles & More Service Team; see section 1.3.3). Your Miles & More Service Team will be happy to assist you in booking Award Flights with all other Miles & More airline partners.
Award Flights can be booked if seats are available in the booking class and travel class relevant for Award Flights on the desired route. The availability of Award Flights may therefore vary by date, booking and travel class and destination. Some Award Flights may not be available at certain times.
The required number of miles to be used is based on:
- the current online offer at miles-and-more.com in the case of flights with Austrian Airlines, Lufthansa, Lufthansa City Airlines and SWISS
- the applicable Star Alliance Award Flight chart in the case of all other Miles & More airline partners listed above
(See also section 2.1 below on redeeming miles.)
In addition to the miles to be redeemed, each Award Flight will be subject to taxes, fees, Miles & More airline partner surcharges and any other service charges you may be required to pay by credit card.
Miles, Points, Qualifying Points and HON Circle Points cannot be credited for Award Flights.
The carrier for flight services is the operating airline (corresponding to the airline code). Miles & More GmbH shall act solely as an agent in this respect.
A distinction is made between the following Award Flights:
1.1 One-way Award Flight
One-way Award Flights allow you to book an Award Flight for a single leg for 50% fewer miles than a standard Award Flight (outbound and return flight; also applies to Child’s Award Flights). For flights with Austrian Airlines, Lufthansa, Lufthansa City Airlines and SWISS, the saving is based on the current online offer at miles-and-more.com.

1.2 Child’s Award Flight and terms and conditions for children and infants
Child’s Award Flights are only offered for flights operated by Austrian Airlines, Air Dolomiti, Brussels Airlines, Croatia Airlines, Eurowings, Discover Airlines, LOT Polish Airlines, Lufthansa, Lufthansa City Airlines, Luxair and SWISS.
A Child’s Award Flight can only be booked if the child or infant is accompanied during the flight by a fully legally competent person or by a member of the unaccompanied minors (UM) service team. Infants (up to the age of two) travel for 10% of the miles required for a standard Award Flight for adults, provided they do not occupy their own seat. A saving of 25% of the miles required for a standard Award Flight is granted for children who are at least two years of age but younger than twelve. For flights with Austrian Airlines, Lufthansa, Lufthansa City Airlines and SWISS, the saving is based on the current online offer at miles-and-more.com.
Eligibility is determined by the age of the child or infant at the time of the outbound flight.
1.3 Star Alliance Award Flights
1.3.1 General terms and conditions
With Star Alliance Award Flights, you can combine flights with Star Alliance partners or other Miles & More airline partners within one Award Flight. For connecting flights within Europe (including the Maghreb states of Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia and Libya), Lufthansa, SWISS, Austrian Airlines and Lufthansa City Airlines flights cannot be combined with flights operated by other Miles & More airline partners within the same direction of travel (i.e. within the outbound or return leg from the original departure point to the destination) as part of an Award Flight. The special Award Flights offered by selected Miles & More airline partners, as listed in section 3, are also excluded.
Award Flights can be booked for open-jaw flights (flights for which the destination of the outbound flight is not the same as the departure point for the return flight). The mileage amount for an open-jaw flight is calculated as 50% of the mileage amount for a round-trip flight from the outbound flight’s departure point to its destination plus 50% of the mileage amount for a round-trip flight from the return flight’s destination to its departure point. 1.3.2 Stopovers and connecting flights
Please contact your Miles & More Service Team if you have questions regarding the availability of and terms and conditions for stopovers and connecting flights beyond those offered online.
1.3.3 World Award Flight
A World Award Flight ticket includes one Atlantic and one Pacific crossing. There must be at least ten days between the start of the first and the end of the last long-haul flight.
World Award Flight tickets are valid for 12 months from the date of issue. You must commence the last flight segment no later than the last day of the validity of the Award Flight.
Further information about the terms and conditions for World Award Flights, such as the maximum number of segments and stopovers, can be obtained from your Miles & More Service Team. A World Award Flight can only be booked through your Miles & More Service Team.
2. Terms and conditions of booking
The following terms and conditions of booking apply to the booking of Award Flights:
2.1 Redeeming miles
For flights with Austrian Airlines, Lufthansa, Lufthansa City Airlines and SWISS, the number of miles required for a standard Award Flight is calculated on the basis of the selected routing, the selected travel class (First, Business, Premium Economy or Economy), the selected fare (e.g. Light or Flex) and the advance booking period. For flights with all other Miles & More airline partners listed in section 1, it is calculated on the basis of an outbound and return flight in the selected award zone (see Star Alliance Award Flight chart).
The miles required to book Award Flights will be deducted from your Miles & More account as soon as the booking is completed.
All applicable taxes, fees and Miles & More airline partner surcharges will be charged separately, are payable by credit card and cannot be paid for using additional miles.
2.2 Advance booking period and ticket validity
You can book your Award Flights up to 361 days before your chosen departure date. Unless stated otherwise on the ticket, in these terms and conditions or in applicable fares (which may limit the validity period of a ticket according to the information contained on the ticket), a ticket is valid for one year from the date of issue.
Your Award Flight Ticket can be booked and issued up to 180 minutes before your planned departure, provided that you comply with the applicable check-in times for the first leg of the flight.
2.3 Rebookings and cancellations
You can currently only cancel or (where permissible) rebook an Award Flight by telephoning your Miles & More Service Team.
2.3.1 Rebooking and cancelling Award Flights with Austrian Airlines, Lufthansa, Lufthansa City Airlines and SWISS
The rebooking and cancellation policy depends on the Award Flight fare selected and will be stated as part of the offer for the specific Award Flight fare. Please note that, depending on the Award Flight fare booked, rebooking or cancellation fees may apply, and rebooking options may be limited (for example, you may only be able to change the date and time, not the departure and arrival locations). For details, including payment options for any rebooking or cancellation fees, please refer to the applicable rebooking and cancellation policy.
2.3.2 Rebooking and cancelling Award Flights with other Miles & More airline partners
For rebookings of Award Flights with Miles & More airline partners other than those listed in section 2.3.1, a fee of EUR 50 (or foreign currency equivalent) per person and rebooking will be charged.
If you rebook an Award Flight with a Miles & More airline partner other than those listed in section 2.3.1, only the date and time of the Award Flight can be changed. You cannot change the route. The original departure and arrival locations must remain the same. Please note that, when rebooking, you may be charged additional taxes, fees and Miles & More airline partner surcharges; these will be indicated where applicable.
2.3.3 Wish to cancel
If you wish to cancel your flight before the planned departure, you can choose between the following alternatives, unless otherwise specified in any applicable Miles & More airline partner rebooking and cancellation policy. If you do not show up for the booked flight and the flight is not cancelled in time, you forfeit your right to choose any alternative. Only the unused taxes and fees will then be refunded, not the miles or the Miles & More airline partner surcharges.
2.3.3.1 Alternative 1
In this case, only taxes and fees will be refunded. Neither the miles nor the Miles & More airline partner surcharges will be refunded. No additional costs will be incurred on your part.
2.3.3.2 Alternative 2
In this case, if permitted by the relevant Miles & More airline partner fare conditions, the miles and the Miles & More airline partner surcharges will also be refunded in addition to the taxes and fees. In return, you will be charged the amount stated in the applicable fare conditions, subject to a minimum charge of EUR 50 (or the foreign currency equivalent) per person and cancellation. This type of refund will only be made at your express request.
2.3.3.3 Alternative 3 (partial use of an Award Flight)
Please note that, in the event of partial use of an Award Flight, taxes, fees and Miles & More airline partner surcharges will only be partially refunded in line with the applicable fare conditions. Miles will not be refunded.
2.4 Transferability and third-party bookings
Award Flights are not transferable once issued. The sale, exchange or auction of award documents, especially Award Flight Tickets, is prohibited in accordance with section 2.3.7 of the Miles & More terms and conditions of participation. The same applies to miles (see also section 2.1.3 of the Miles & More terms and conditions of participation).
You can book Award Flights for family or friends without being required to fly with them. Award Flights for third parties must be booked by you personally. The relevant mileage amount will be deducted from your Miles & More account. Please refer to the applicable provisions regarding miles, Points, Award Flights and award documents in the Miles & More terms and conditions of participation.
2.5 Special terms and conditions for certain status customers: Companion Award Flight
Customers with Senator status or HON Circle Member status have the option of booking a Companion Award Flight. A Companion Award Flight entitles you to take a companion with you on your trip for 50% less than the mileage amount for a standard Award Flight. The companion must book, commence and complete the trip with the qualifying Miles & More member. For flights with Austrian Airlines, Lufthansa, Lufthansa City Airlines and SWISS, the saving is based on the current online offer at miles-and-more.com.
Companion Award Flights are not valid in combination with reduced Award Flights (Fly Smart Award Flight, Award Flight Specials, mileage bargains, etc.), Child’s Award Flights or one-way Award Flights.
A Companion Award Flight can only be booked with the following airlines, subject to availability: Air Dolomiti, Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines, Croatia Airlines, Eurowings, Discover Airlines, Lufthansa, Lufthansa City Airlines, LOT Polish Airlines, Luxair and SWISS.
2.6 Tickets
Award Flight Tickets are issued in the form of electronic tickets.
2.7 Billing
Miles & More GmbH will not issue a separate invoice. Depending on availability, you may be able to access and/or request receipts from the relevant airline partner.
3. Reduced Award Flights
Subject to availability, you have the option of booking reduced Award Flights with selected airlines. Reduced Award Flights include Fly Smart Award Flights, Award Flight Specials and mileage bargains, as well as other Award Flight-related promotions. Unless stated otherwise for a specific reduced Award Flight, the following provisions in section 3 apply to these reduced Award Flights. Unless specified otherwise below, the terms and conditions of booking stated in section 2 of these general terms and conditions also apply.
3.1 General terms and conditions of booking for reduced Award Flights
Companion Award Flights for customers with Senator status or HON Circle Member status are not available in conjunction with reduced Award Flights (see section 2.5 of these terms and conditions). This also applies to Child’s Award Flights (see section 1.2 of these terms and conditions).
Reduced Award Flights for connecting flights:
The next available flight is always selected automatically for connecting flights. You will not have the option of choosing a connecting flight, even via your Miles & More Service Team.
Rebookings and cancellations:
You cannot rebook reduced Award Flights. In the event of a cancellation, only the fees and taxes paid will be refunded. Neither the miles nor the Miles & More airline partner surcharges will be refunded.
Ticket validity:
The maximum period for which tickets are valid depends on the award product concerned.
3.2 Fly Smart Award Flights
Fly Smart Award Flights require fewer miles than standard Award Flights and are therefore subject to special conditions. Fly Smart Award Flights can only be booked online and cannot be combined with other savings.
3.2.1 Terms and conditions of booking
On European routes, Fly Smart Award Flights can be booked online for Economy Class and Business Class. On intercontinental routes, online bookings of Fly Smart Award Flights are only possible for Economy Class. The offer is valid for selected Miles & More airline partners (Eurowings, Brussels Airlines, Croatia Airlines and LOT Polish Airlines) and their routes. You can view the Miles & More airline partners and relevant terms and conditions here.
3.2.2 Advance booking period and ticket validity
Booking period:
Between two weeks and two working days before the chosen departure date.
Minimum stay:
For Fly Smart Award Flights within the Germany and Europe zones, the earliest possible date for the return flight is the first Sunday after your outbound departure. For Fly Smart Award Flights to intercontinental destinations, the minimum stay is seven days.
3.3 Mileage bargains
Mileage bargains are monthly limited-time offers from selected Miles & More airline partners. They can only be booked for routes or destinations advertised as mileage bargains via the relevant Miles & More communication channels. For more information, please visit www.miles-and-more.com.
Please note that special terms and conditions of travel and booking periods apply to each mileage bargain.
3.4 Other reduced Award Flights
Other reduced Award Flights offered at miles-and-more.com are subject to the terms and conditions stated in the offer.
4. Upgrade Awards
Upgrade Awards allow you to travel in a higher travel class if you have booked a flight with a specific Miles & More airline partner and have an eligible booking class and flight number.
You can find the Miles & More airline partners, booking classes and flight numbers here, along with information about online booking and additional terms and conditions.
Upgrade Awards cannot be redeemed for bookings involving code-share flights or Award Flights. Your reservation must be made under the flight number of the airline operating the flight.
An upgrade for a child is only possible with certain Miles & More airline partners. When requesting an upgrade for a child booked under a separate booking, you must ensure that adult supervision is guaranteed at all times (either by an adult passenger travelling in the same service class on all flight segments or via use of the UM service).

The rebooking and cancellation terms and conditions for the originally issued ticket also apply when you book an Upgrade Award. An Upgrade Award can only be used on routes for which a flight coupon has been issued for the ticket. Upgrade certificates are valid for a period of 12 months.
4.1 Terms and conditions of booking
Upgrades are subject to availability and can generally only be booked for the next travel class up from that of the originally booked ticket. Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines, Discover Airlines, Lufthansa, Lufthansa City Airlines, LOT Polish Airlines and SWISS also allow you to upgrade directly from Economy Class to Business Class. The mileage amount for the Upgrade Award depends on the booking class of the ticket. Please note that the mileage amounts quoted always apply to one leg, i.e. one flight coupon. If more than one leg or coupon is required for the trip, the mileage amounts will be added together.
Exception:
Upgrades for domestic flights within a European country are only available in combination with upgrades on intercontinental flights and are already included in the Upgrade Award for the intercontinental flight.
An Upgrade Award can only be booked for a flight that has been paid in full, e.g. via lufthansa.com, and for which a ticket has already been issued. Upgrades are not possible for Award Flights. All flight segments for which you wish to book an upgrade must have been previously confirmed in the original travel class in each case.
Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines, Discover Airlines, LOT Polish Airlines, Lufthansa and SWISS generally only offer upgrades to Premium Economy Class on intercontinental flights.
You can book an upgrade online at miles-and-more.com or through your Miles & More Service Team.
Upgrade waitlist bookings for Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines, Discover Airlines, LOT Polish Airlines, Lufthansa, Lufthansa City Airlines and SWISS (including flights operated by Edelweiss) and upgrades for group bookings are only available via your Miles & More Service Team.
4.2 Advance booking period and payment
For flights with Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines, Discover Airlines, LOT Polish Airlines, Lufthansa, Lufthansa City Airlines and SWISS, you can book an upgrade up to three hours before departure, provided you have not already checked in. This time frame may vary from place to place depending on various factors (e.g. waiting times).

Miles & More GmbH is not obliged to take part in arbitration proceedings and cannot offer you the option of participating in such proceedings.
