Main focus: climate protection
In the Amazonas region of Brazil, myclimate supports the transition from diesel to climate-friendly FSC woodchips used for the production of electricity.
This small-scale project is the first worldwide that generates emission certificates on the basis of sustainably harvested biomass from a FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) certified forestry. The woodchip power plant with electrical output of 9 MW is located in the Precious Woods company sawmill in Itacoatiara, a small town in Brazil’s Amazonas region.
The project replaces a number of diesel generators and helps to supply the approximately 80,000 inhabitants of the city with power that is more climate-friendly. Thanks to the power plant, the local population benefits from lower energy prices and a more stable energy supply (fewer power cuts and transport losses). Annual electricity production at the plant is as much as 45,000 Mwh, which would otherwise require diesel consumption of around 10-15 million litres. The waste heat generated by this process is used in the wood drying plants. More info
How much of the donation ends up being used by the projects themselves?
As a charitable non-profit organisation, myclimate guarantees that at least 80 percent of donations is used for climate protection projects locally. myclimate needs the remaining (maximum) 20 percent to cover internal administrative and organisational costs.
