Frankfurt Airport: Germany’s gateway to the world

So much has changed since the humble beginnings of the first airship terminal in Frankfurt-Rebstock. What began as an unpaved runway for airships and small propeller-driven aircraft has evolved over time into a gigantic infrastructure for larger and more modern turbine aircraft and megaliners. But these ever-expanding dimensions have not been limited to just technology. Passenger numbers have also grown continuously. Today, Frankfurt is one of Europe’s leading airports in terms of passenger and cargo traffic. 2019 was the busiest year on record, with 70 million passengers using the airport.
