How it works
Step by step
To use MilesPay, register your credit card once here in the Miles & More app. Select the mileage amount before you shop in store or online, and then pay as usual with your Miles & More Credit Card. The euro equivalent to the mileage amount selected will be credited back to your credit card account within two to three working days.
Once only: register your Miles & More Credit Card
You will find this service under “More” in the menu item “MilesPay” in the Miles & More app.
Open “Add credit card”. Store your credit card number by entering the digits in the field provided. The green tick shows that the process was successful. MilesPay is now ready to use.
Select the mileage amount, and activate
Select the mileage amount and click on “Activate MilesPay”. You now have 15 minutes to complete your purchase.
Pay with your Miles & More Credit Card
Pay for your purchase at the cash desk or online. The exact amount in euros will be charged to your credit card account. The euro amount equivalent to the selected mileage amount will be credited back to your credit card account in 2 to 3 working days.

Why do I have to register a credit card for MilesPay?
When you use MilesPay , your award miles are redeemed for credit card payments. This requires a one-off registration of your credit card in the Miles & More app.
Which credit cards can I use for MilesPay?
All credit cards belonging to the German Miles & More Credit Card portfolio. From 1.10.2025, only credit cards issued by Deutsche Bank AG can be re-registered:

Can I remove the credit card I currently have registered in MilesPay and replace it with a different one?
Yes, you can replace a registered credit card with a Miles & More Credit Card from Deutsche Bank AG. However, you can’t delete a credit card without registering a new replacement card.
Can I register several credit cards for MilesPay?
No, you can only register one credit card at a time for MilesPay. If you want to replace a registered credit card with a different one, you can do this under Settings/Credit Card management.
Despite entering the correct card number when registering, I get an error message afterwards.
Then your credit card is probably not a Lufthansa Miles & More Credit Card issued by Deutsche Bank AG. This is only checked after your request has been sent. An error message is rarely a system error, for example if you don’t have internet access at the time of registration or the Mastercard® system is not responding.
Why is my new replacement credit card not accepted during the registration process?
Your new credit card either doesn’t belong to the German Miles & More Credit Card portfolio or you’ve already registered your credit card for MilesPay.
I’ve deleted my credit card, and now I can’t re-register it.
It is not possible to re-register the same credit card within 24 hours. Please wait 24 hours and try again.
Why do I need an internet connection to register, delete or change my credit card?
To process your requests to register, change or delete your credit card, such requests will be forwarded for verification online and in real time to enable you to register, change or delete the credit card for MilesPay with immediate effect and without delay.
How do I redeem miles with MilesPay?
To redeem miles with MilesPay, you need the Miles & More app and a Miles & More Credit Card.
Please note the following when logging in to the Miles & More app: if you’re already a Miles & More member and downloading the app for the first time, please log in using your current Miles & More login details. Otherwise, a new mileage account will be created, and you won’t be able to use MilesPay with the miles you’ve already earned.
Before paying in a shop or online, decide how many miles you want to redeem. This will then be deducted from the payment amount. The euro amount equivalent to the selected mileage amount will be credited back to your credit card account in 2 to 3 working days.
Do I need to tell the shop that I want to pay part of the amount using miles?
No, you don’t, because MilesPay works in the background. The retailer receives payment in euros as usual, and your credit card account will be reimbursed for the mileage amount within 2 to 3 days.
Questions about registration and card management
How does MilesPay work?
MilesPay is a service in the Miles & More app that allows you to redeem award miles for your Miles & More Credit Card purchases anywhere Mastercard® is accepted. By registering your credit card and activating MilesPay in the Miles & More app, the maximum mileage amount previously selected is credited against the payment total with the next credit card payment. The payment total corresponding to the selected mileage amount will be credited to your credit card account within two to three working days.
Is there a charge for using MilesPay?
The use of MilesPay is free of charge for Miles & More members.
Why do I have to set the mileage amount before each credit card payment?
You must set and activate the mileage or redemption amount before each credit card payment to ensure you don’t unintentionally redeem too many award miles with MilesPay.
How do I activate MilesPay for my next credit card payment?
Open MilesPay under “More” in the Miles & More app. You can select there how many award miles you wish to redeem either by using the default mileage amount or by choosing your own redemption amount. Then click on “ActivateMilesPay”.
Can I cancel the activation of MilesPay afterwards?
Yes, you can. As soon as you activate MilesPay for your next purchase, the 15-minute timer and the corresponding cancellation option are displayed on your screen. These functions are also displayed even after you close and reopen the Miles & More app.
What is the purpose of the timer and why is it only activated for 15 minutes?
The timer displays the time available from the moment MilesPay is activated until the time you pay with your credit card. This limit protects you from redeeming award miles unintentionally. Once the timer has timed out, the MilesPay activation is automatically deactivated and no award miles can be redeemed.
What happens if I pay with my credit card after the 15-minute timer has timed out?
Once the timer has timed out, the MilesPay activation is automatically deactivated and your credit card payments will then be processed without redeeming award miles.
What happens if I select a higher award mileage amount than is necessary for the next credit card payment?
The purchase price in euros will always be debited in full from your credit card account. If you select a mileage amount that is higher than that necessary for your purchase, only the award miles required for the purchase will be redeemed. The purchase price in euros will be refunded in full to your credit card account within two to three working days.
What happens if I select a lower award mileage amount than is necessary for the next credit card payment?
The purchase price in euros will always be debited in full from your credit card account. If you select a mileage amount that is lower than that necessary for your purchase, only the mileage amount selected will be redeemed. In this case, only the amount in euros corresponding to the award miles redeemed will be refunded to your credit card account within two to three working days.
Is there a minimum or maximum number of award miles that can be redeemed with MilesPay?
MilesPay always shows you in the Miles & More app the current minimum amount in euros or award miles that must be used for a credit card payment. This is usually EUR 10 or 3,000 award miles. The maximum amount of award miles that can be redeemed is limited by the full converted euro value of the award miles available in your mileage account. If your monthly or available credit card limit is the equivalent of a lower number of award miles, then this lower number of award miles is the maximum mileage amount.
Can I close the Miles & More app after activating MilesPay?
Yes, your MilesPay session continues to be active in the background – even if you close the Miles & More app. This means that you can use Apple Pay or Google Pay for paying on your smartphone, for example.
I have activated MilesPay, but I get an error message after paying with my card.
- Your payment total may have been too low. It must be over the displayed minimum amount of miles to be redeemed.
- A specific merchant or service may have been excluded from the use of MilesPay.
- Your payment wasn’t authorised or didn’t go through until the 15-minute timer expired. This may be the case, for example, with some online merchants who delay charging credit cards.
- In exceptional cases, this may be a technical error.
I would like to return an item purchased with MilesPay. Will the redeemed award miles be refunded?
You can return items or purchases by exercising your statutory right to return goods. The merchant will refund the corresponding amount in euros to your credit card account. It is not possible to reverse a transaction retroactively and claim back the award miles already redeemed.
Can I use MilesPay everywhere?
You can use MilesPay anywhere in the world where Mastercard® is accepted as a payment method, both online and in store. Only the following services and businesses are currently excluded from the use of MilesPay: money transfers, cash withdrawals, cash machines, withdrawals, cash transfers, tax payments, gambling, horse and dog racing, promotional items and services for financial institutions, truck stops and other services.
Can I also use MilesPay in other countries and with currencies other than the euro?
Yes, you can. To calculate the necessary award miles, other currencies are converted into euros at the current exchange rate.
Where can I activate push notifications for successful MilesPay transactions?
Open MilesPay under “More” in your Miles & More app and activate push notifications for MilesPay under “Settings”.
Where can I see my recent MilesPay transactions?
Open MilesPay under “More” in the Miles & More app. You will find all your successful MilesPay purchases within the last 30 days in the “Purchases” tab. You will also find older MilesPay purchases in your Miles & More mileage account.
I’m a member of a mileage pool. Can I use collectively earned award miles for MilesPay?
Yes, you can.
As a Senator or HON Circle Member, can I use my mileage advance for MilesPay?
No, that is not possible.
Questions about credit card payments with MilesPay
I have activated MilesPay - what else should I be aware of when paying by credit card?
You can now close MilesPay and the Miles & More app, and pay with your credit card within 15 minutes as usual in all online shops or directly in-store, wherever Mastercard® is accepted.
When paying
- with your physical credit card, for example in shops, insert your card in the reader or swipe it and confirm the payment with your PIN. Contactless payment is also supported as long as the merchant’s terminal can establish an online connection.
- in online shops, enter your credit card number during the checkout process as usual. Please note that it may take a few minutes to process your credit card payment. Do not cancel MilesPay activation until you receive confirmation.
- with your wallet (e.g. Apple Pay or Google Pay), you can also make contactless payments as usual.
What should I do if the in-store staff are not familiar with MilesPay?
MilesPay works in the background and without the involvement of individual merchants. To redeem your miles successfully, all you have to do is activate MilesPay and pay with your credit card in the usual way.
Why is the euro amount redeemed only credited to my credit card account retroactively?
MilesPay works in the background and without the involvement of individual acceptance points. The refund to your credit card account happens automatically and downstream after the successful deduction of the award miles has been verified. We usually need two to three working days to process the refund through the normal banking channels.
Under what name will the MilesPay refund appear in my credit card account?
The refund is marked as “MilesPay credit”.
Will the mileage amount raise my credit card limit?
No. You can only redeem as many award miles with MilesPay as your credit limit allows. You must first carry out a credit card transaction in accordance with your card limit before your MilesPay purchase takes effect. Once your most recent MilesPay transactions have been refunded, your credit limit will increase again by the corresponding amount.
Do I have to re-register my credit card when renewing it after it has expired?
No, because the card number remains the same when a credit card is renewed. You only have to re-register your card if the credit card number changes (e.g. if you lose your card).
