General terms and conditions of use for MilesPay

MilesPay is an offer by Miles & More GmbH (“MMG”) for members of the Miles & More programme (“members”) who are also holders of a Mastercard credit card approved for MilesPay (“credit card”). Unless otherwise stipulated, the following terms and conditions apply to the use of MilesPay. The Miles & More terms and conditions of participation also apply.

1. What is MilesPay?

MilesPay is a feature for Miles & More members that allows miles (“miles”) to be redeemed when making payments with a credit card. By registering a credit card once and activating MilesPay in the Miles & More app, members can preset the maximum mileage amount to be redeemed with their next card payment. The use of MilesPay is free of charge for members.
To redeem miles for credit card payments, MMG works with the credit card organisation Mastercard. When registering for MilesPay, your credit card is stored in a Mastercard system.

2. Eligibility for participation

Members who hold a credit card approved for MilesPay are eligible to use MilesPay. You can find an overview of currently approved credit cards in the FAQs. MMG reserves the right to change the range of approved credit cards at any time.

3. Redeeming miles when paying by credit card

MilesPay can be used wherever Mastercard is accepted worldwide to redeem miles for both online and in-store purchases. Excluded from MilesPay are selected retailers and services, in particular cash machines, bank transfers and gambling institutions. You can find a full overview in the FAQs.

3.1 Registering a credit card

In order to use MilesPay, a credit card must be registered once in the Mastercard system during the MilesPay registration process. Only one credit card can be stored per member.
You can replace a registered credit card with another approved credit card or remove it entirely from MilesPay at any time in the settings. Once a credit card has been successfully removed, it is only possible to register the same credit card again after 24 hours have passed.

3.2 Setting the mileage redemption amount and activating MilesPay

A mileage redemption amount must be specified each time before you activate MilesPay for your next credit card payment. The mileage redemption amount is the maximum amount to be applied to the purchase amount on the next credit card payment. It can be set in fixed, preset amounts or individually via manual entry and shows the corresponding equivalent in euros next to the mileage amount. The minimum amount of redeemable miles communicated by MMG in the MilesPay app applies.

The maximum amount of miles redeemable for a credit card payment is limited by the number of miles available to the member in their Miles & More mileage account. Members of a mileage pool can also redeem the miles available in the pool for MilesPay in accordance with the terms and conditions of Miles & More Mileage Pooling. Overdraft facilities granted to status members cannot be used for MilesPay.

MilesPay can be activated for the next credit card payment once a mileage redemption amount has been successfully set.

When MilesPay is activated for the next credit card payment, a timer displays the remaining time during which the credit card payment must be made in order to redeem the specified mileage amount. The timer, and therefore the activation, can be cancelled at any time. Miles will not be redeemed for the next credit card payment after cancellation or when the activation has expired.

3.3 Paying by credit card to redeem miles with MilesPay

To redeem the set mileage redemption amount, the credit card registered for MilesPay must be used to pay for the desired purchase. Payment can be made using a physical card or a digital wallet.

3.3.1 Paying by physical credit card

To ensure miles are redeemed when paying with a physical card in-store or using a mobile card reader, the credit card must be inserted (chip and PIN) or the magnetic stripe swiped (swipe and PIN), depending on the retailer terminal.

Online payments can be made as usual by entering your credit card number during the online retailer’s payment process.

3.3.2 Paying by digital wallet

Payments – including contactless payments – can be made as usual with your digital wallet (e.g. Apple Pay, Google Pay).

3.3.3 Settling payments on your credit card and in your mileage account

Credit card payments made in connection with MilesPay will initially always be charged to your credit card for the full purchase amount in euros. The equivalent amount of successfully redeemed miles will usually be credited to your credit card within two to three working days. The redeemed mileage amount will not increase your current credit card limit.

If you set the mileage redemption amount higher than is necessary for the next credit card payment, only the miles required for this will be redeemed and the full purchase amount will be credited to your credit card account.

If you set the mileage redemption amount lower than is necessary for the next credit card payment, only the selected mileage amount will be redeemed and only the purchase amount paid with miles will be credited to your credit card account.

If the euro purchase amount is less than the minimum mileage redemption amount currently valid and displayed in the MilesPay app, no miles will be redeemed and the euro purchase amount will continue to be charged in full to your credit card.

For credit card payments in a foreign currency, the euro billing amount on your credit card is always used to calculate the miles to be redeemed.

4. Returns and mileage refunds

You can return your purchases in accordance with the statutory right of return and receive a corresponding refund in euros from the retailer. It is not possible to refund or retroactively reverse the miles already redeemed.

5. Data protection
