Together with MasterCard, Europe’s leading frequent flyer and awards programme is supporting aid projects around the world with a donation
Frankfurt, am Main, 20 February 2019 – Today, Miles & More and Mastercard presented a cheque for 200,000 euros to help alliance for vocational grants and income-creation projects. This sum was collected in a joint Miles & More and Mastercard campaign, which took place in December under the slogan “You fly, we donate”. For every flight booking with Lufthansa, Austrian Airlines or SWISS, paid for between 1 and 24 December using a Lufthansa Miles & More Credit Card, Miles & More donated two euros in collaboration with Mastercard. The amount collected was then rounded up to a full 200,000 euros by Miles & More and will be benefiting the following projects: Preschool for township children in Cape Town, South Africa, child protection centres in Pattaya, Thailand and educational opportunities for the children of migrants in Dusseldorf, Germany. The Lufthansa Group not-for-profit aid organisation help alliance, is financed exclusively by donations and the projects sponsored are managed by employees of the Lufthansa Group on a voluntary basis.
Mastercard also donates two school meals to the UN’s World Food Programme per flight booking in order to support children in developing countries.
The cheque was presented to Andrea Pernkopf, help alliance’s managing director, by the representatives of the companies – Sebastian Riedle, Managing Director, Florian Heurich, Head of Payment DACH at Miles & More GmbH, as well as Peter Bakenecker, Divisional President Germany and Switzerland and Andreas Mechler, Vice President at Mastercard.
“We are very pleased with this donation and would also like to thank the holders of Lufthansa Miles & More Credit Cards, who, with this donation, are helping as part of more than 40 aid and educational projects, to give children and young people, in particular, the perspective of a life of independence”, said Andrea Pernkopf. “We are proud of our initiative, which was created by the staff nearly 20 years ago and which is active where aid is most urgently needed.”
