Lufthansa Group and Miles & More enter into new partnership with Deutsche Bank and Mastercard

  • Europe’s leading loyalty programme for people on the move continues to grow with a new partnership
  • Deutsche Bank AG and Mastercard won the tender for the credit card portfolio in Germany
  • Switch-over set for mid-2025

In the future, the Lufthansa Miles & More Credit Card will be issued by Deutsche Bank. Mastercard will remain a partner for the cards. Both companies participated successfully in a global tendering process. The switch-over will take place in mid-2025.

Christina Foerster, Member of the Executive Board of Deutsche Lufthansa AG, says: “I look forward to working with strong partners to provide our customers with even better and more innovative offers. We’re constantly expanding the Lufthansa Group’s premium offering, which extends far beyond the actual flight. Long-term customer relationships founded on trust play a key role in this. Together, we’ll continue to develop Europe’s leading loyalty programme to the benefit of our customers all over the world.”

“Miles & More has one of the leading credit card portfolios in Germany and Europe. We’re delighted that Lufthansa has chosen to rely on the payments expertise and reach of Deutsche Bank for this growth product. We have a strong position in the credit card issuing business in Germany. Through Miles & More, we will further advance the important business of payment transactions as part of our Global Hausbank strategy for growth,” says Christian Sewing, CEO of Deutsche Bank.

“Mastercard has significant, long-standing partnerships with Deutsche Bank, the Lufthansa Group and Miles & More. Together, we’ll make the future of travel more sustainable and optimise it with the aid of technical innovations. And we’ll use our momentum to do even more for Miles & More members,” explains Mastercard CEO Michael Miebach.

Customers benefit from attractive offers and services

The partners’ shared goal is to redefine loyalty. Customers will benefit from even more personalised offers and innovative digital applications. In addition, existing card services will be expanded, for example by means of additional insurance services and offers that help consumers to make sustainable choices.

Johann-Philipp Bruns, CEO of Miles & More GmbH, adds: “Miles & More has over 30 years of experience in the field of loyalty, and we want to use this to benefit customers. With Deutsche Bank and Mastercard, we have two partners who will help us to achieve new growth potential.”

Strong development of a successful product

Deutsche Bank will become the card issuer in summer 2025. Existing Lufthansa Miles & More Credit Card holders will not have to actively do anything. All existing cards will retain their validity until the switch-over. Cardholders will be informed in good time of the transition date. Existing services will also remain in place when Deutsche Bank takes over as a new partner. These include earning miles on credit card purchases, unlimited mileage protection and the premium insurance package.

Miles & More Credit Cards were launched in Germany in February 1999 and are now offered in 20 additional countries. Users can pay with their card at more than 100 million places where Mastercard is accepted and can even redeem miles with MilesPay.
