The village of Morcote is known as “the pearl of Lake Lugano” and enchants with its famous monuments, narrow cobbled streets and Mediterranean charm. Nearby, occupying a spectacular position on the headland overlooking the village, on rare volcanic soils, is the Castello di Morcote estate. Comprising not only of a winery renowned for its award-winning Merlots, and the unique, beautiful Relais Castello di Morcote hotel, the estate also includes the famous Restaurant Vicania.
According to the estate owner Gaby Gianini and the young, creative chef Francesco Sangalli, each dish tells a story about the terroir. They use only fresh, local ingredients and products from their organic 172-hectare land where, in addition to wine, they produce oil, honey and vegetables for the kitchen. Horse riding through the woodlands and pastures around the restaurant, visitors are likely to encounter the chef as he searches for herbs and berries to bring the authentic taste of nature to the table.
