More possibilites to earn miles - thanks to Mileage Pooling

Frankfurt am Main, 9 May 2018 – Miles & More members in Germany, Austria and Switzerland can now pool their award miles and earn miles together to achieve their desired awards. The new ‘Mileage Pooling’ function enables families, friends and couples to pool their award miles. The benefit of this is that more miles means more opportunities to redeem them – for flights, trips, hotels, rental cars or the latest luggage from the Lufthansa WorldShop. Up to two adults and up to five children can earn award miles in a virtual account, known as a mileage pool, and achieve their desired award even quicker.

The new ‘Mileage Pooling’ function is available in the Miles & More app under the menu option ‘More’: Each adult member can set up a mileage pool by inviting additional members, in which the members’ award miles are added together virtually. Both adults in the group have equal entitlements and can redeem miles earned previously and those earned in the future from programme partners for all awards starting at 3,000 miles in the programme. The system automatically uses the most favourable option for the members, by first redeeming the miles that are due to expire next.

The new offer applies to award miles. Status miles cannot be pooled. The Miles & More app with ‘Mileage Pooling’ function is available from the Google Play Store and the Apple App Store.

Gerald Schlögl, Director Miles & More Award Program & Airline Partnerships answers the key questions relating to Mileage Pooling:

For whom is Mileage Pooling of interest?

Mileage Pooling is aimed at Miles & More members from Germany, Austria and Switzerland. By earning miles together, families, friends and couples will have more opportunities to redeem their miles.

Up to two adults and up to five children can pool their award miles in a group and achieve their desired awards more quickly. The minimum number of members in a mileage pool is two, where at least one member must be an adult.

Mileage Pooling makes it possible for families and friends to get their preferred awards even faster

How does Mileage Pooling work? How can I participate in this?

The function is available in the Miles & More app. One member opens the pool and invites other members by entering the service card number for Mileage Pooling. As soon as at least one member accepts the invitation, the mileage pool is opened. All previously earned miles are then also added together in the mileage pool.

What can I use miles earned through Mileage Pooling for?

The miles earned in the mileage pool can be redeemed for all awards in the Miles & More programme. This includes shopping and lifestyle products, subscriptions, books, finance and electronics products, as well as trips with award miles, upgrades, hotels and rental cars, and shopping in the Lufthansa WorldShop.
