If you want a flight award that enables you to transfer within a third region, you can book a 3-region flight award. You can use this stopover for a longer stay. In many cases, this requires fewer award miles compared to two regular flight awards. You can find the regions in the country table on page 2 of the Star Alliance flight award chart.
An easy example: You start in New York (JFK), enjoy a stay in Frankfurt (FRA) and then fly on to Bangkok (BKK). Region 1 is the starting region (North America), region 2 is the stopover region (Europe) and region 3 is the destination region (Southeast Asia). With the 3-region flight award, you save 40,000-M- on this route in comparison to standard flight awards in Economy Class. This is because you only have to spend 100,000-M- compared to 140,000-M- for two standard flight awards.
Use flights offered by almost all Miles & More airline partners.
In certain cases you have to spend significantly fewer award miles for a 3-region flight award compared to regular flight awards.
The outward and return flights may also include different regions.
This is how many award miles you need for a 3-region flight award
