for Ayité, who is committed to ensuring that young people – like himself – receive vocational training
Ayité Gaba lives in Togo, one of the poorest countries in the world. He is 25 years old and has completed a training course in bookkeeping thanks to help alliance. Ayité doesn’t know what would have become of him without this opportunity. He now has prospects, and wants to use the knowledge he has obtained to benefit school-leavers in need at the training centre that help alliance is currently building in Dékivinmé in Togo.
Training and work places are hard to come by in Togo. Even though there is a shortage of skilled workers, a third of all young people are unemployed. This is expected to change when the training centre is built – which is where your award miles also come in.
Life in Togo
A vision becomes a project
Creating theoretical training spaces and practical workshops.
Modern yet down-to-earth, and built from traditional, local materials.
Komi Avenunye Adegnon, architect
“I’m familiar with conditions on the ground and know what young people need. I’ll put my heart and soul into ensuring the success of the project.”
Wiyaou Takpeke, construction manager
“Training young people means a lot to me and my company.”
Benjamin Wuikpo, joiner
“I completed my training in the previous project. I now wish to pass on everything I learned there to other young people.”
Other projects funded with miles donations
Fifteen years ago, Miles & More teamed up with help alliance, the charitable aid organisation of the Lufthansa Group, to make the world a slightly better place with the help of Miles & More members.
The miles donated have been supporting many projects in the fields of education, work, income, medical care and nutrition since 2006 - with many more set to follow. We will be presenting the most important of the many projects to you over the next few months.
