From garage to global player - Amazon
Amazon started out on the outskirts of Seattle (USA) in Jeff Bezos’ garage in 1995. He wanted to make shopping easier for people with the help of the internet. Books were ideally suited for this, because they are easy to store and ship, and are also Jeff Bezos’ passion. The idea: to be the biggest bookshop in the world. Within the first 30 days amazon.com processed orders for customers in 50 US states and 45 countries worldwide. All were supplied from the garage. More than 500,000 employees now work for the company in more than 30 countries.
