The first SWISS Recraft Collection – genuine aircraft parts

Unique and minimalist design from theAirbus A321 “HB-IOC

Following an impressive 27 years of service, the SWISS Airbus A321 "HB-IOC" touched down in Zurich for the final time in 2022. In the service of Swissair and SWISS, the aircraft has carried more than seven million passengers and completed around 47,000 take-offs and landings. To honour the historic character of the iconic Airbus, SWISS has developed the first SWISS Recraft Collection as part of a pilot project during the subsequent aircraft decommissioning process.

The handcrafted limited edition accessories and furniture collection consists of upcycled aircraft parts and brings the history of HB-IOC to life in a new form.

As an aircraft consists of high-quality components, they retain their value even when it is replaced by a more modern, more fuel-efficient aircraft at the end of its life cycle. With the Airbus A321 HB-IOC, the disused parts were not only used as replacement and training material and professionally recycled, but also creatively upcycled for the first time.

The results are luggage tags and key rings, wall hooks, wardrobes, bowls, mirrors, side tables and a specially designed aircraft window that can be hung on the wall as a bar or display case. In creating the unique pieces, the designers reinterpreted parts of the fuselage, its substructure, as well as the interior and exterior windows of the Airbus A321. In order to preserve the original roughness of the large aircraft and evoke memories of its active days, the materials and structures remain visible and reflect the complexity, sophistication and aura of an aircraft.
